Opening Activity (10/11)

1. List and describe two things you already knew.
I knew that you should try and get a wide variety of shots to give your story a unique look and keep viewers interested because it will be more interesting with multiple types of shots.
I also knew to get good sound bites. With good soundbites your story becomes so much better and good quotes fromn interviews are always remembered.
2. List and describe two things you learned for the first time.
I learned what a trucking shot is. I learned that with a trucking shot the camera is moving with the picture and that it is the same thing as a dolly.
I learned that you should try and get plenty of natural sound not just the people you are interviewing but of the environment you are in.

Opening Activity (10/10)

His love for the pumpkin. His relationship with the pumpkin.

Opening Activity (10/6)

Steve Jobs died this week. He was one of the co-founders for apple. I think it is sad because he had such an impact on the world today. We all use technology he has helped create. I wonder how the company will try and bounce back without his input and hope that they can continue making technology that improves our everyday lives.

Opening Activity (9/26)

1. The topic of the article is Lady Gaga had a fan who commited sucide and at one of her concerts she paid tribute to him.
2. Lady Gaga's love for Fans
3. The story has the criteria of porminence, timliness, unusualness.

Interview Number Three

I interviewed captain Lindsey Schonecker.

1.       To get different people to bond we try and group girls by their ability level so they get to know people from all different grades.

2.       The cross country team will cheer others on by going all over the course and try to help their teammates succeed.

3.       I hang out with a bunch of the girls outside of cross country. I have been doing cross country for four years now so I became close with a lot of the girls.

4.       A unique thing that our team does to bond is we have pasta dinners before our races which not every team does.

5.       The girls in cross country are really peppy, have a lot of spunk and are fun to be around making it one of the best teams to be on at Eastview.

Interview Number Two

1.       Our captains have made us closer by trying to mix up who you run with so you can get to know more people.
2.       My favorite activity we have done to bond as a team this year is pasta dinners because we get to eat and hang out outside of practice together.
3.       Our team is a lot closer now than at the beginning of the season because we have been running together and as you run you talk so you get closer.
4.       As a team we get closer through volunteering by going to Feed My Starving Children and working the Twin Cities marathon.
5.       I feel that I have made friends that I will have for the rest of my life by being a part of cross country. They are a great group of girls that I will stay in touch with when the season comes to an end.
I interviewed Jessica Schmitz who runs Cross Country.

Interview Number One

I interviewed the captain of the Girls Cross Country team Courtney Conroy

1. I have made some of my best friends throughout the four years I have been in cross country. I would never have even met these great individuals if I had not went out for the team.

2. The cross country team has gone on many trips making us closer as a group. We went camping together as a team. While we camped we sat around the campfire playing a bunch of games and got to know each others personalities. We also have gone to Iowa and bonded on the bus trip down.
3. We make new members of the team feel welcome by doing group activities and learning about each other while running. We make group decisions so that the new members feel welcome and so they feel as if they have a say and are contributing.

4. I feel like I am a lot closer with girls this year than the past years because I am a captain and part of my job is to get to know the other runners.

5. At pasta dinners before our races we do group activites to make people become closer. I remember one time we painted pumpkins and brought them to the nursing home as a fun activity to bond and give back to the community.

Opening Activity (9/22)

A bible that has been to the moon and back is going on sale in an auction tonight in New Hampshire. Who ever buys the bible will not be able to read it because it is only the size of a postage stamp. The bible went into space three times before it made it to the moons surface. They expect the bible to go for $50,000.
I think this story is very interesting and neat. I would love to own that bible because it is a part of history and would be cool to see.

Opening Activity (9/20)

Ruby Bridges is the six year old girl who helped integrate the New Orleans school system in the spring of 1960. She grew up in the 1960s when segregation was still acceptable. What she did helped integrate schools. She made it acceptable for all races to be in one place without controversy.

Opening Activity (9/19)

I read an article about Kate Gosselin being caught for speeding and having to pay a ticket. I think it is kind of funny becuase her excuse was to get back to her kids. Kate was going 88 mph in 65 mph zone which is extremely dangerous and dumb of her. I think because Kate was going so far over the speed limit she deserved the ticket she got. The critera this falls under is prominence because Kate Gosselin is a star and timeliness becuase it happened recently.

The rule of threes/filling the silence is after you ask a question and they answer wait awhile to ask your next question becuase the person you are interviewing will get uncomfortable when in the silence and end up trying to fill it with a better answer to your question.

The non question/question talk about different topics in your life or just have a converstaion with the person you are interviewing and then eventually lead up to the topic you want to discuss.

Opening Activity (9/16)

Who: Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden
What Happened: March 24, 1998 at Westside Middle School five people (four girls and one teacher) were shot and killed. Golden and Johnson pulled the fire alarm and shot at the students and children as they walked out of the building.
Why: They shot at them for target practice because they belonged in target clubs and were trying to prove to their friends they were good at aim.
I would do a story about why the boys were so emotionally disturbed that they thought it was okay to shoot at innocent people.

Opening Activity (9/15)

Tom Brady told Patriot fans to start drinking early for the game on Sunday vs. the Chargers. Later Brady claimed that he meant to drink water and to drink responsibly. I think this story if funny because of the miscommunication by Tom Brady. I also like this story because it allows you to relate to the football player because he too messes up on his word choice. This story would be considered prominence because if your average Joe said that it would not be included in the news and Tom Brady is a celebrity.

Opening Activity (9/14)

Students in the state of Minnesota scored higher in reading this year but lower in math which is very concerning. Elementary students and middle school students went down in math because of a new type of test called Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment III. I think that because it was a new test it is harder to tell how much the students really did decline in math. Also in Minnesota there are still gaps between different races with the minorities scoring lower. I feel that as a state we need to change that and get everyone passing the tests. The article said that there was a drop in Apple Valley, Eagan, and Rosemount’s math scores.  I think this story is interesting because the news is local.

Opening Activity (9/13)

Google+ sounds like an interesting new social network. I like the idea of having the games be separate from the social aspect of the network. I have never really done the different games on Facebook and find it annoying when people asking me to be their neighbor on Farmville pops up in my notifications. I think that adding games to Google+ network would broaden their users making it more successful. Finally I think I will get a Google+ account to see what it is like.

Opening Activity (9/12)

I watched the September 11, 2001 attacks on YouTube. I saw the twin towers collapse and pictures of firemen and police trying to help. The sight of all the destruction caused by the attacks is very dreary. The amount of people who died is devastating. When I look at all the firemen and police officers who tried to help by risking their lives for others it makes me feel proud to live in this country.

Kaelin Hall

Kaelin Hall is not your typical Eastview High School student. Kaelin’s passions are unique compared to your usual pupil. She loves to decorate cakes and enjoys reading a lot. She is fascinated by weather. Her favorite memory is when she went on vacation in Mexico and got caught up in a hurricane. Most students would get scared in a hurricane but not Kaelin because she loves all kinds of storms. Another thing that sets Kaelin apart from the Eastview High School student body is her hidden talent. Kaelin is able to blink with just one eye. Kaelin is an individual with very interesting passions and a cool hidden talent.
